Happy Thanksgiving!

bhrugesh

Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, good food, and thankfulness. Tooth health is probably the last thing on your mind. Thanksgiving is a delicious day for your taste buds and tummies, but it’s not such a great day for your teeth.

From chipping, cavities, and staining your teeth, this holiday can wreak havoc on your oral health. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving can cause many chipped or cracked teeth. Please be mindful when biting into a tasty pecan pie and carefully chewing while enjoying your delicious meal. Lots of yummy pies and sweet treats come with this thankful holiday. As we all know, sugar causes cavities. Harmful bacteria feed off the sugar, and bacteria create acid that wears away tooth enamel, and then a cavity is created. Thanksgiving Day can include coffee, red wine, tea, and cranberry sauce. All of these items can cause dental stains. If you are more susceptible than others to stains, then try to avoid these foods. However, should you choose to indulge, rinse your mouth thoroughly after enjoying these foods or beverages.

And remember that if you incur any of these dental problems over Thanksgiving, please know that Dr. Reza Hekmat and staff are here to help you. We are very grateful for our amazing patients.

Some helpful tips for Thanksgiving:

1.    Eat all the turkey you please. Turkey has phosphorus in it, which aids in tooth development.

2.    Get your pumpkin pie on. Pumpkin dishes are high in Vitamin C, which keeps gums healthy and helps to build enamel.

3.    Focus on the veggies. Try to incorporate greens, green beans, butternut squash, asparagus, and other veggies into your side dishes. These are rich in both Vitamin C and A.

4.    Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Your safety and satisfaction is our number one priority. Please contact us for more information or to schedule an appointment. (858) 485-5925
